Eric Sanchez – President

Eric is both Navajo and Mexican and hails from San Pedro, California. He earned two degrees at UCLA: a BA in Political Science, and a JD in Law. He is an MA candidate in American Indian Studies at UCLA. Sanchez worked for the Census Bureau’s Tribal Outreach Program, volunteered with the Learning Rights Legal Aid Center and created a memorial scholarship at UCLA. Sanchez currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Indian Community Council, participates in Furthering Indian Rights in Education (FIRE), serves on the Board of Directors for Pukuu, Cultural Community Services, and advises the Leadership Development in Interethnic Relations program.

Desiree Belone

Desiree Belone is an enrolled tribal member of the of the Navajo Nation and Ponca Nation of Oklahoma; mother to Russell; and an advocate. Her educational background includes Vocational Nursing and Social Services. She has worked at various hospitals and held previous employment with Torres Martinez Tribal Tanf for 12 years. She recently served three academic years on the Los Angeles Unified School District- Title Vi Indian Education Program Executive Committee. As well as held office with the American Indian Community Council Board Member as of 2017. Ms. Belone is extremely dedicated and honored to serve and represent her tribes, community, and family.

Ms. Belone is currently a full-time freelance make-up artist. She believes, “We are changing the narrative. Our people are coming together to share our stories and history.”. It is her goal to contribute the arts and socially conscience films. Ms. Belone donates her time and skills to passion projects/documentaries that project our stories in a good way.
